Walk & Talk Therapy

What is it?

Walk & Talk Therapy is an approach to therapy that combines the benefits of physical activity with traditional talk therapy. As a psychology service, it aims to provide an alternative setting for therapeutic sessions, one that embraces nature and fosters a deeper mind-body connection. I recognize that traditional therapy settings can sometimes feel confined or restrictive. Walk & Talk Therapy offers a refreshing alternative by taking therapy sessions outdoors. Clients have the opportunity to engage in therapeutic conversations while taking leisurely walks in serene natural surroundings.

Why Walk & Talk Therapy?

It can help combine the benefits of being outdoors with the benefits of therapy. It can provide a unique perspective on a variety of topics due to simply being in a different environment. As well as improving physical health.

What’s the cost? Is it covered by insurance?

The cost is the same as a typical therapy session. As it is a real therapy session. Just outdoors in nature. It can be covered by insurance, depending on your insurance. If you would like us to check your insurance, contact us here!

How long are the sessions?

Typically 40 minutes to an hour. Same as a standard session. However, should health become a concern during the walk, we can/will cut it short. If you’re uncomfortable with walking that long, that’s fine! We can always pause, sit on a bench, or go at a comfortable pace.

What about privacy?

This is where Walk and Talk therapy is different than typical therapy. It is outdoors. Therefore, we cannot control who is around or listening. We cannot ensure confidentiality on topics that we choose to discuss in the session. How we can manage this by deciding the topics beforehand or steering away from very sensitive topics. But, it is still a decision that you will have to make and feel comfortable with.

Won’t that limit therapy? - Not necessarily. There are an infinite amount of topics to discuss that do not relate to very sensitive information.

What if I have health concerns?

Consulting with a doctor before starting Walk and Talk therapy is essential for ensuring its suitability and effectiveness in addressing mental health concerns. Ensure that walking will not be too stressful on your body or create any health concerns.

Where will this be located at?

Typically, within Burlington County. Smithville Park. Buttonwood Park. Or an agreed-upon location. This is due to time constraints on the therapist’s behalf with managing multiple sessions.

The days can vary. Saturday Mornings. Weekday mornings or evenings.
